Botulinum Toxin Type A:

BotulinumToxinThis is a natural purified protein that relaxes the wrinkle causing muscles, creating a smothered and more youthful appearance. In addition to treating wrinkles, it is also used to treat facial spasms like Benign Essential Blepherospasm (BEB) and Hemi-Facial Spasm (HFS).

Important information:

  • Injection Botulinum Toxin acts locally and does not have any systemic side effects.
  • The effects of Botulinum toxin injection peaks after 1 week
  • The effect lasts for 4-6 months
  • There is no worsening if the injection is not repeated.
  • Botulinum Toxin Injection is avoided during pregnancy and lactation.

Fractures Around the Eye:

Normal Orbit:

Normally eye is placed in a cage of bones called the orbit. Any blow to the eye can lead to fracture of this bony cage. The Medial (towards the nose) and the floor are more frequently fractured. Not all fractures need repair. The need for surgery and the timing is best decided by the treating surgeon.

  • Surgery is done outside the eye
  • Patient can go home on the same day
  • Patient’s eye will be patched for one day
  • Some drops will be advised on the next day
  • There might be some swelling around the eye which will resolve in about one week.

  • No head bath for one week
  • Do not apply soap on the face for one week
  • Clean the face with a sponge/ wet cloth
  • Avoid dirty and crowded places for week

Cosmetic Concerns: Blepheroplasty

Cosmetic_ConcernsIt is procedure for correcting eye bags and loose skin around the eyes. Procedure is done through hidden incisions. It is either performed under general or local anesthesia. There is no pain with the procedure.

Post Surgery Information:

  • Eye will be patched for one day
  • No head bath for one week
  • Do not apply soap on the face for one week
  • Clean the face with a sponge/ wet cloth
  • Avoid dirty and crowded places for week

 

Orbital Mass Lession:

It is usually seen that patient either have Inferior Orbital Lesion called as Cavernous Hemangioma or Supero-Medial Orbital Lesion called as Internal Angular Dermoid.

Surgical Information:

  • This surgery is done either under general or local anesthesia
  • The eye lids remain closed for one week
  • Artificial eye is placed after six weeks

Post Surgery Information:

  • Eye will be patched for one day
  • No head bath for one week
  • Do not apply soap on the face for one week

  • Avoid dirty and crowded places for week

Artificial Eye:

Removal of Eye ball is also called as Enucleation or Evisceration. In Enucleation the entire eyeball is removed, where as in Evisceration all the contents of the eye are removed, retaining the outer shell i.e. the sclera.

  • Malingnant Tumors like Retinoblastoma, Melanoma etc…
  • Painful Blind eye
  • Disfigured Blind eye
  • Penetrating injuries where wound repair is not possible
  • Severe Intraocular Infection which cannot be controlled with medications

  • Artificial eye is placed after six weeks

Post Surgery Information:

  • Eye will be patched for one day

Eyelid Tumors and Reconstruction:

The eyelid Tumors are the problems that may appear with the eyelid, at birth or during your life, because of accidents, trauma, certain problems you might have had with any products or they are sometimes symptoms of other, more serious diseases such as diabetes, or others. Some of these diseases are life-threatening and some of them put your vision at risk, and they can be quite uncomfortable.

  • This surgery is done either under general or local anesthesia
  • The eye lids remain closed for one week
  • Skin Stitches if any are removed at one week
  • Adjuvant therapy after excision may or may not be required

  • Eye will be patched for one day
  • No head bath for one week
  • Do not apply soap on the face for one week
  • Clean the face with sponge/wet cloth
  • Avoid dirty and crowded places for week
  • Stage 2, if required is done after 6 weeks of stage 1 surgery.
